The Scmorgesborg of Posts

So many things have happened since my last post. Most of them centered around twerking.

I won’t bore you with my johnny come lately thoughts on the whole Miley situation. I’ll just say that I feel bad for all of the little girls out there who loved her and now must be confused as shit about what it means to be grown up. Problem for Miley is that she’s caught between a rock and a hard place. She’s not talented enough to compete on her art alone, and she’s not pretty enough to become a true sex symbol like Britney was back when she went through her version of growing up on MTV. She also has no message…and no cause…like, let’s say, Gaga. Which means, I guess, that all she has is shock factor. If you can even shock anyone anymore.

Many of the reactions to her performance were about how she was too skinny, how she wasn’t attractive and how she just wasn’t sexy. Men don’t want her and girls don’t want to be like her because men don’t want her. And yes, the use of “men” and “girls” in that sentence was intentional. Soooo….she’s being labeled as just a skank. A kind of a dirty joke, really. Is that sad? Or unfair? Or pathetic? Or just not true? I doubt it. It just is what it is.

Oh crap, I went ahead and bored you with my johnny come lately thoughts on the whole Miley situation. My bad.

Another thing that happened since my last post is…..drum roll.…I got my DRIVERS LICENSE! Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I also got a new cookbook. (Okay, I got three new cookbooks. I have a problem you guys.) It’s Gwyneth Paltrow’s, It’s All Good, cookbook. I’m working on a post about my thoughts on Gwynnie (mixed) and the uber healthy recipe I made from her book over the weekend (good).

Finally, I got a cool award from one of my favorite bloggers on WordPress, Simple Heart Girl. She recently got featured on Freshly Pressed, but I’ve been following her since before she got super famous. 🙂

There are certain guidelines to follow when you get something like this, so here goes.

  1. I have to say that I didnt find anything wrong with Miley’s performance. It was over the top, but it was a translation of the Robin Thicke song that she was performing to. It is about a good girl, “wanting it” and going bad. Well done if you ask me. This man thinks she is pretty as a doll, but I think you should take her to some of the restaurants that you visit. She is clearly in need of increased caloric intake. Rio, as someone that hung out with you in the 80’s, I am shocked at your comments about Spinderella. She was drastically overrated as a DJ. About your newly acquired license…I just saw a bulletin at work about that. The country’s threat level has been increased to red due to your acquisition of a “license”. By the way, Cheerios is asking that you return it promptly. Love your blog, keep up the good work!

  2. I’m clearly not surfing the zeitgeist. Miley? Miley who? What has she done? Who is she?
As for the Award, well thank you ever so much.
    🙂

  3. I don’t have cable so I wasn’t able to watch the MTV Video Awards live. Not that I would have if I did because I am so behind the times that I don’t really recognize more than half the artists that are on the show. But I was oh-so curious about this Miley Cyrus performance that I HAD to watch it. So I did. And something interesting happened. I wasn’t disturbed or grossed out or any of the other reactions that have been written about online. More than anything I was confused by what I was watching. Also, I couldn’t help but think that she was simply trying too hard. And I think that’s what she’s been doing since she stopped being Hannah Montana. I just can’t help but get the impression that she’s trying really, really hard to separate herself from the Disney persona everyone knew her for. Unfortunately I think it’s going be a while before everyone puts H.M. behind and sees Miley for who she is now – a grown up.

  4. Hey, thanks for mentioning the Blink! I was so tickled to discover your site as well.

  5. “It just is what it is.” We have the same thought process on the situation. I knew I liked you.

And thank you!!!! 🙂 Oh and I love that you wanted to be like Spinderella. I feel she never got enough credit, her name being edited down to a mere letter and all.

Have something to say?
